As the energy transition progresses, the policy, economic and market conditions which underpin renewable developments evolve also.
ATCO continues to progress the Central West Pumped Hydro Project (CWPH). Whilst we are finalising CWPH’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), we believe the right and respectful time to submit the EIS will be at a time when the delivery pathway for pumped hydro projects matures. The submission of the EIS will therefore be deferred from its originally anticipated schedule.
CWPH remains one of the state’s attractive Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) project options, and an important enabler of Australia’s growing uptake of renewable energy. Our experienced team is invested in NSW and is committed to delivering CWPH affordably and promptly.
ATCO is encouraged by the intent of the NSW Government to support pumped hydro, and its ambition to partner with leading projects in a way that serves the best interests of host communities and the consumer. We continue to work closely with the government and Australia Energy Market Operator (AEMO) Services to ensure support programs are fit for purpose ahead of coal-fired power station closures.
Our Bathurst office remains open, and we will carry-on providing our community and stakeholders with important updates on the project’s status as milestones are reached and information comes to hand.
